Hello there!
I’m Anastasia, a London-based full-time artist and a dreamer. I’ve been drawing my whole life, though my path to becoming an artist wasn’t straightforward. I actually have a degree in psychology and spent years studying art and calligraphy. Along the way, I’ve experimented with different materials and techniques, but my heart always returns to watercolour. That said, I still love to play around and try new things from time to time!
What inspires me most is the lightness and transparency of watercolour. I am also inspired by cities and their energy, architecture, and hidden stories. Sometimes, when I long to escape into a gentler, more comforting world and soothe my soul, I create illustrations for imagined books and stories. Through my art, I want to share what I see and feel, and invite you to experience the beauty of these captured moments with me. Furthermore, I want you to pause and reflect on what lies beyond the visible.
Thank you so much for your support,
Anastasia
Artist statement
My work is inspired by the endless variety of architecture and cityscapes and the freedom and lightness of watercolour.
I strive to convey not only the external beauty of city streets and buildings but also their hidden inner worlds, intertwining the past with the present. My academic background in psychology allows me to view art through the lens of the human psyche. My work is deeply metaphorical, created to inspire reflection and encourage viewers to look beyond the familiar patterns of daily life. Through my art, I seek to uncover the hidden layers of meaning embedded in urban landscapes and invite people to consider what lies beneath the surface of the ordinary.
This vision is central to my collection Echoes of the Streets. Each piece is infused with subtle narratives that challenge us to question our perceptions. For instance, the phrase "Open your mind" inscribed on an aging façade beckons us to see beyond the fractures, urging us to recognise the deceptions that bind our world together. Similarly, the word "Freedom" scrawled on a wall beneath freshly laundered clothes drying outside reflects the duality of human existence—a quiet rebellion against the invisible chains of routine and system. It’s a reminder that, though we may feel trapped by repetition, we are not solely defined by it. These overlooked details carry profound messages about resilience, choice, and the potential for liberation.
Through my art, I hope to encourage viewers to pause, look around, and uncover the extraordinary within the ordinary. While the physical world collapses—like the crumbling buildings depicted in some of my paintings—what truly matters lies beyond the rubble: something enduring and unshaken by the crumbling world around us.
I want my paintings to be an invitation to explore these moments and see the world with new eyes.
